Craig Helenske - Principal Architect, AIA
Bachelor of Architecture - NDSU, 1975 As the firm's principle, Craig is focused on client relationships and fostering a rewarding work environment for his staff. Never afraid to ask what if or why, he is always looking to find better solutions for his clients. With over 35 years of architectural practice, Craig's most rewarding experience is witnessing the excitement and satisfaction of the firm's clients throughout the design/build process. Outside of work, Craig is heavily involved in the community and has played a key role in founding the local Habitat for Humanity and River Keepers Organization. Married with two grown sons, Craig enjoys spending time with his wife, traveling and photographing new places. He also spends his time with his Christian study groups and exploring new ideas through reading. |
Steven Stalboerger
Architect, AIA Bachelor of Architecture & Bachelor of Science (Architectural Studies) - NDSU, 1986 Highlighted by a design expertise in the medical field, Steve brings with him over 35 years of healthcare experience. Developing some of the most state-of-the-art facilities in the region, he has found a passion for designing stand-alone surgery centers and finding new ways to recreate the traditional healthcare facility. Steve has been married nearly as long as he has been an architect and enjoys hunting, fishing, golf, and supporting the local and national sports teams. |
Paul Rye
Associate AIA Bachelor of Architecture - NDSU, 1999 Bachelor of Science (Art) - NSC, 1987 Paul has been with HDG for over 12 years and has worked on many academic and agricultural projects throughout the area. Winning the Studio Mentor Award at NDSU for his ability to set competition aside and assist fellow students, Paul is always willing to lend his helping hand no matter what the project. This Aberdeen native enjoys adventures with his friends and family, painting, photography, "archi-tourism," and experiencing famous and not-so-famous places. |
Wayne Schommer
Designer/Project Manager Associates Degree (Architectural Drafting & Estimating) - NDSCS, 1985 With a deep appreciation for the differences and complexities in each project, Wayne has the incredible ability to step up to the plate during any phase of the design or construction process. He brings over 25 years of experience in both drafting and architectural design to the HDG team and is never afraid to take on something new. Originally from Fordville, ND, Wayne spends most of his free time on the course golfing, playing and attending sports events, and being with his two daughters. |
Holly Rieger
Associate AIA Bachelor of Architecture and Env. Design NDSU, 1994 Holly has nearly 2 decades of experience but her love for all things architecture has been a life-long passion. Holly’s focus is in residential design which she polished in her experience working with custom home builders around the region before coming to HDG where she has expanded her services to a full design-build studio. Outside of work, Holly is a die-hard Vikings fan. She loves to spend time with her husband and attend all of her two sons' sports and school activities. |
Mark Speral
Construction Manager Bachelor of Science (Construction Management) NDSU, 1982 Mark, who has over 25 years of construction management experience, does not play favorites but enjoys the familiar sequence that comes with building projects and the individual identities each one takes on. Mark's background in commercial construction has been of great use in building up HDG's CM branch. Mark grew up in Fargo and feels privileged to raise his own children here. He loves to golf in his free time but his favorite activity is spending time with his family. Shawn Senescall
Intern Bachelor of Env. Design & Master of Architecture NDSU, 2015 Still a student at NDSU, Shawn uses his hunger to learn and strong sense of motivation to further his architectural knowledge every day . With an interest in the process and evolution of design, Shawn will continue to grow as an aspiring architect through his hard work in school and at HDG. Outside of the classroom, Shawn stays active at NDSU with architecture department and Sigma Chi Fraternity. He enjoys sketching, biking, and being outside fishing and hunting with his family. |
Elliot Steinbrink
Construction Manager Bachelor of Science (Construction Management) NDSU, 2009 Elliot's boundless energy and attention to detail are just two of the qualities that make him a great project manager. His ability to organize, delegate and inspire hard work is an essential part of the job and he does them well. Working mainly on residential projects, Elliot has what it takes to get the job done on time and on budget. When he isn't busy building homes, Elliot spends the majority of his time with his wife and daughters as well as hunting, fishing, and watching sports. |
Kirsten Waverek
Marketing Manager Bachelor of Business Marketing Concordia College, 2011 Kirsten plays a multi-functioning role here at Helenske Design Group. Balancing the everyday marketing tactics and interiors, she also keeps the office running as well as the business. Kirsten is always seeking out new and creative ways to streamline processes and bring, build, and maintain the firm's clients. A native of central Minnesota, Kirsten loves to spend time at the lake with her husband, family, and friends. She also enjoys cooking, sewing, and working out. |
Katherine Casavan
Controller Bachelor of Accountancy UND, 2000 Working with the company for over 10 years, Katherine oversees all of the financials including payroll, accounts receivable and payable, insurance, financial reports and budgets for Helenske Design Group. With her impeccable organizational skills, she keeps everyone in the office on track and on budget. After the books are balanced, Kathy balances a busy home life with her husband and three young children. She also enjoys reading and spending time at the lake. |
